Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Foot Health Practitioner the same as a Chiropodist or Podiatrist?

No. As a Foot Health Practitioner, I hold a Diploma in Foot Health (DipFH) awarded by the SMAE Institute in Maidenhead-the only UK institution offering a University Credit-Rated Foot Health course accredited by Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. I follow the Codes of Conduct set by the relevant regulatory bodies.

Do you carry out Continued Professional Development?

Yes, I am committed to professional growth and development and complete annual CPD, as a member of the College of Foot Health Professionals (MCFHP) and the Association of Foot Health Professionals (MAFHP). I also hold a qualification in Emergency First Aid at Work (Red Cross), undergone an Advanced DBS check, and am fully insured through the SMAE Institute.

Do you do home visits?

Yes. I provide home visits in Whitby, North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas.

Does it hurt?

Most treatments are not painful, though certain conditions-such as ingrown toenails-may cause mild discomfort. I always work gently and discuss any sensitivities with you throughout the appointment.

Do I need to prepare anything for your visit?

Please have a list of your current medications available so we can complete your medical and consent forms. I bring all necessary equipment.

What does "medical instruments" mean?

All instruments are manually scrubbed, ultrasonically cleaned, and autoclaved. Each item is traceable within your clinical notes to ensure the highest standards of hygiene.

What should I expect at my first visit?

The first appointment takes about an hour and covers your foot health, consent, and medical history. I carry out an initial assessment to determine what treatments might be needed. Treatments commonly include nail care, thick nail reduction, hard skin removal, corn removal and routine foot maintenance. Everything is done gently and at a pace that suits you, with plenty of time for questions.

How much is an appointment?

Appointments start from £37.

What is "Nail Reconstruction" treatment?

Pedisafe is an advanced aesthetic nail reconstruction and remodelling system. It contains anti-fungal and antimicrobial agents and is curable in UV light. It can be used for enhancing damaged nails affected by fungal infection or injury. Pedisafe can be used on both hands and feet as a simple preventative overlay. Pedisafe is a flexible system that adapts to the movements of the toes and the forces exerted on them when walking or exercising. An initial consultation is required. Prices starting from £45.

How can I pay?

Payment is accepted by cash, card, or bank transfer.
